The recently elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in each of the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State received their certificates of return yesterday from the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, or BYSIEC.
In addition to the swearing in of the council chairmen and their vices, the event was witnessed by members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, state executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), family members, friends, and well-wishers. It took place at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekeki in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Chief David Alagoa (PDP) Nembe LGA, Mrs. Alice Allen Tangi (PDP) Sagbama LGA, Mr. Bulodisiye Ndiwari (PDP) Yenagoa LGA, Lelei Tariye (PDP) Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Golden Jeremiah (PDP) Ogbia LGA, Onniye Isaac (PDP) Ekeremor LGA, Chief David Alagoa (PDP) Nembe LGA, Mrs. Bulodisiye Ndiwari (PDP) Yenagoa LGA, and Febo Lucky (PDP) Brass LGA are the newly elected chairmen.
Dr. Peter Singabele, the chairman of BYSIEC, stated in his opening remarks that although the ceremony is short, it is significant for the commission. He also mentioned that the 105 councilors who were also elected will have similar ceremonies at the eight local government centers.
“We are about to present Certificate of Return to those who emerged victorious in the just concluded local government elections. This is a brief ceremony but very important.
“This is the last step on the part of BYSIEC in the 2024 elections. When you have your certificate and when eventually you are sworn in, you can now operate as elected chairmen of the eight local government areas and that is the third tier of government in a democratic setup at the grassroots”, he said.
The chairman of the Yenagoa Local Government, Mr. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, expressed gratitude on behalf of the newly appointed chairmen and vice chairmen to the state’s governor, Douye Diri, his deputy, Lawrence Ewrudjakpo, the BYSIEC, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for providing them with a platform to serve in their respective council areas.
“To all our supporters and Bayelsans, we say thank you. We promise that we are going to do our best and serve you faithfully that governance at the grassroots will get better and better,” he said.
