Court sentences police to death for killing pregnant lawyer, Bolanle Raheem

The Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island, has sentenced police officer, Drambi Vandi who killed a Lagos-based lawyer Bolanle Raheem, to death by hanging.

Justice Ibironke Harrison sentenced the Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP after finding him guilty of the murder of the pregnant lawyer.

The judge held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt, adding that  the convict shot the deceased at close range.

“The court found the defendant guilty on one count of murder. You will be hanged by the neck till you are dead,” Harrison said.

In his testimony before the court, Drambi Vandi told the judge that the bullet presented in court which was said to have killed Mrs Raheem did not come from the rifle he carried on the day of the incident.

He also claimed that he had never seen the bullet until it was tendered in court.

WAKADAILY reported on 25th December that, the 41-year-old woman was four-month pregnant with twins when tragedy struck. Bolanle Raheem and her family were returning home on Christmas Day when an officer attached to Ajiwe police station in Ajah, Lagos, shot and killed her.
