Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer, has stated that fans frequently compare her to other female artists, creating a sense of rivalry.
These fans often suggest that these rising artists are aiming to dethrone her.
Tiwa Savage, who stars in the film ‘Water & Garri’, expressed her intention to build friendships with these new female artists, as she believes that music should not be approached as a competition.
Savage recently had a conversation with BET during an interview.
She said, “Fans always try to pit me against other female artists. Any new female artist that comes up, they would be like, ‘Yo, she is coming to take her throne.’
“And I would go out of my way to mmake friends with them [new female artists] because it is not a competition. The real competition are the male artists. I was happy that Tyla, a female artists won the maiden Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys over the male nominees.”
