The Society of Women Accountantant of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged political officeholders to make effort to increase female participation in politics.
SWAN is the female wing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.
Mrs Hilda Ozoh, the National Chairperson of Society Women Accountantant of Nigeria (SWAN) said this in a statement to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024.
United Nation’s campaign titled for 2024 International Womens Day is ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress’.
Ozoh said, “We want governments at the centre and states to encourage us to actively participate in politics by increasing women’s participation at all levels in the country and government agencies and institutions. Women are good and hard workers.”
Ozoh also stressed that the International Womens Day was committed to honouring the essence of womanhood, globally recognising women’s presence and applauding their achievements across social, economic, cultural, and political spheres.
SWAN chairperson posited, “This year’s theme underscores the urgency of addressing economic disparities. The campaign theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ emphasises diversity and empowerment across all facets of society.
“With leaders like Kamala Harris breaking barriers as the first female Vice President of the United States, women continue to forge ahead, shattering glass ceilings despite persistent gender inequities.”
“As we reflect on the contributions of trailblazing women and assess our role in shaping the future for our girls, SWAN remains committed to advancing women’s affairs nationally and internationally. Through various initiatives, we strive to enhance the lives of women and girls, ensuring inclusivity for every SWAN Queen, and standing strong in our socio-economic endeavours.”
