Firm Introduced gas initiative for boat operators

A US based company, Blue Gas Marine has introduced compressed natural gas to operators and ferries in Nigeria.

On Wednesday, the Chief Executive Officer of Ril Hydrocraft Limited,  Distributor of cylinder, Layi Solesi, informed the journalists in Lagos that CNG is a game changer.

As claimed by  Solesi, the benefits of CNG are enormous, not only for road transportation but for marine transportation as well.

Recall that in August President Bola Tinubu approved the Presidential Compressed Gas Initiative.

Disclosing the approval, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced that the initiative would ease the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians by reducing energy costs.

Solesi assertained that the launch was aimed at suggesting to ferry or passenger boat operators on the availability of a solution that could ensure boats operating in Lagos and around  the country.

“We have the exclusive distributor for Blue Gas Marine, a US company that is the manufacturer of this product. The event focuses on intimating ferry or passenger boat operators on the availability of a solution that can ensure boats operating in Lagos and anywhere in the country utilise CNG.

“As we all know CNG is the trending topic in Nigeria to bring down fuel costs and depart from the use of petrol and diesel. We know the impact of the petrol subsidy removal,” he noted.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Waterway Authority, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel,  has Earlier declared that the significance of the stakeholders programme cannot be over stressed as the initiative was a worthy one.

“As you know, the fuel subsidy removal has brought about an increase in petrol price and boats generally rely on petrol. This means that we need to consider other alternatives to petrol of which gas is one, electricity is another. So, it is about planning and if we fail to plan, we are bound to fail,” LASWA boss remarked.

He added that it was one thing to bring a novel idea, “but if the benefactors are not aware or understand the initiative, it would be a waste of time. So, the stakeholders forum was very important”.

“This is to enlighten people on this alternative and how the alternatives will best serve us. The government has created an enabling environment on how we can plug this to ensure these alternatives are provided,’’ he stated.
