Mohammed Saidu Fawu, the Gombe State Commissioner for Water Resources, has promised that the citizens’ suffering due to the water supply outage will end by Saturday.
According to reports, there has been a severe water shortage in the state for the past few weeks, forcing inhabitants to purchase water from vendors at exorbitant prices. This has further disadvantaged those who supposedly obtain their water from contaminated sources.
Nonetheless, a few benefactors stepped in and sent trucks full of water to regions where a lot of people had to wait in line and fight to receive their portions of the donated water.
The Commissioner did, however, claim that the current water issue was brought on by the collapse of 31 electrical poles that connected the state’s Dadin Kowa Dam to the national grid.
He said that the government was in control of the issue and that the fallen poles had been replaced. He also promised that the water supply will be restored by Saturday night.
He also asked for patience from the populace, pointing out that the 50 kilometers of water pipes that connect the dam to the state capital must be filled in order to deliver water to the region.
