Fast-rising Nigerian singer Shallipoi has revealed that he was paid N50,000 for his first ever show as an artist.
He revealed this in a recent interview with Zero Conditions podcast, sharing insights into his early struggles as an artist and his recent wins. Shallipopi, who burst onto the scene with his viral hit “Elon Musk,” shared that his first musical performance, though modestly compensated, was a stepping stone in his career.
He stated that he was paid the sum of 50,000 Naira, which he received with joy, considering it was his inaugural performance. He also added that the organizers were kind enough to cover his flight expenses, marking a humble yet significant start to his musical journey.
The singer noted that despite the modest payment, he expressed happiness and gratitude, stressing his passion for music over monetary gains.
He also dived into the wins of his career so far, speaking on the financial aspects of the music industry. Shallipopi compared music earnings to “money we draw,” underscoring the lucrative and sometimes unpredictable nature of the music industry.
He admitted that before diving into music he was unaware of the potential financial rewards, a realization that came as he navigated his way through the industry.
Many have reacted to this revelation, many people admire his sensibility and dedication to his musical career, while others express skepticism about the details of his first ever paid show, suspecting his exaggeration for attention.
Shallipopi has had a good 2023 as his music career has gone from zero to hundred this year, as he not only launched his own record label but also made a significant personal investment by purchasing an airplane. His maiden flight, however, was not without its challenges, as he was recalled to have almost thrown up onboard.
The singer also had a meltdown moment with his arrest by the Economic Financial Crime Commission early this year.
