Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti has revealed that he won’t leave his wife even if she cheats on him.
His wife, Yetunde Kuti who is a dancer and chef said cheating is not a deal breaker in their marriage.
The duo spoke in a recent interview with TVC programme, where they opened up about their relationship and love stories.
Kuti said, “We don’t believe in cheating.” What does it mean to cheat? Love is not ownership,”
One of the hosts then asked Kuti, “Would you leave her [your wife] if she cheats on you?
“No. What has that got to do with anything?” He quried.
Also speaking his wife said, “There is nothing my husband is going to do that would make me leave him. Even if he cheats on me I won’t leave him. I am not going to leave my husband because he cheated on me. Nah, that can’t happen.”
Yetunde noted that her family and friends warned her about marrying in Fela’s family, saying Kuti will marry other women after her, because that’s her their father was.
She also added that she had known Keti for long but don’t talk to him because of their age difference.
Yetunde, who was a dancer to Kuti said: “I have always had the idea of not wanting to be married, and my family was expecting me not to get married, especially to Seun. I grew up with people whose marriages were not stable and looked at it from their perspective, and I realized that everybody has their own reasons their marriages didn’t work, and people can’t just continue like that.”
“There’s a sacrifice that one has to make, but some people don’t want to make the sacrifice. My family said my life would end if I married Seun Kuti and that I would just be one of his 35 wives. They said his father married many wives and that he would marry more than him.”
Kuti and his wife legally got married in 2020 after having a daughter together and leaving with each other for years.
