American rap legend, Jay-Z has slammed the organisers of the Grammy for its decision making over the years, especially when it comes to his wife, Beyonce’ and the album of the year category.
The 54-year-old was accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, which was held at the Crypto Com Arena in Los Angeles for the 66th Academy Awards.
In his acceptance speech, Jay-Z criticised the organisers of the prestigious award sense of judgement, saying despite his wife being the most awarded person in the history of Grammy with a total of 32 awards, she has never won the Album of the year.
“Obviously, it’s subjective because, you know, it’s music and it’s opinion based. But you know, some things, you know, I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year,” Jay-Z said, as the camera cut to his wife, Beyoncé.
“So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won album of the year. It doesn’t work,” he said as their daughter Blue Ivy stood beside him.
The 24-time Grammy winner ended his speech by encouraging viewers, Jay-Z said: “You got to keep showing up. Until they give you all those accolades you think you deserve. Until they call you chairman. Until they call you a genius. Until they call you the greatest of all time,” he concluded as he raised his trophy with a smile. “You feel me?”
