A number of distinguished guests, including former president Goodluck Jonathan, former governor of Borno State Ali Modu Sheriff, veteran Pa Edwin Clark, and numerous other dignitaries, have confirmed their attendance to the Night of Tribute honoring Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, a former member of the House of Representatives.
A statement from the former governor of Borno states that several governors from the South-South will also be present to mark the event.
Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ojougboh passed away in February at the age of 64.
On February 7, 2024, it was announced that the former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission passed away while he was watching the tense African Cup of Nations semifinal match between South Africa and Nigeria.
According to reports, Ojougboh had a heart attack when the referee gave South Africa a penalty kick and disallowed a goal scored by Nigeria.
The politician allegedly shouted and passed out, which ultimately caused his demise.
The departed philanthropist will be honored at a Night of Tributes scheduled for 4 p.m. on April 14, 2024, according to a clearly written statement released by Governor Sheriff to newsmen.
“Former President Goodluck Johathan will be among the top dignitaries expected at the Night of Tributes for the late Dr Cairo Ojuogboh .
“Dr Ojougboh a great Nationalist and a former member of the House of Representatives died while watching the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final encounter between Nigeria and South Africa.
“Dr Ojougboh, 64, a prominent Agbor Chief, the Akinuwa of Agbor in Delta State, will be remembered as a patriotic Nigerian and a great family man. He was never too busy for family. He taught us to live, love deeply and cherish relationships. He was an accomplished politician and a philanthropist.
“The Night of Tributes will be held in Abuja on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 4 pm at A-Class Event Centre.
“Other special guests expected are governors of the South-South region, party leaders from both the PDP and APC. Elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark, former Governor of Borno State Ali Modu Sheriff, among others.”
