Ahmed Ododo, Kogi State Governor, has applauded President Tinubu for approving the Nigeria Student Loan Act.
The Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, into law, was signed by President Tinubu on Wednesday.
This followed separate considerations by the Senate and the House of Representatives on the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund’s report.
The governor, reacted to the signing, stating that the Student Loan Act will improve the quality of education and also increase access to education for millions of Nigerian youths and children from social and economic backgrounds in the country.
The special advicer to the governor, Ismaila Isah, in a statement on Social Media, “President Tinubu is placing a premium on the provision of quality education to Nigerians, adding that education is a veritable tool for empowering the people and an enabler for more Nigerians to ascend the socio-economic ladder irrespective of their social and economic backgrounds.”
Ododo noted that “by assenting to the Student Loan Act, President Tinubu has further demonstrated uncommon determination to transform the education sector in Nigeria, thereby, providing the impetus for the acquisition of skills required to meet Nigeria’s manpower needs in response to emerging realities of the development agenda of the country”.
The governor also praised Tinubu for organizing the development of education in Nigeria, he added that the Student Loan Act and its provisions show that education is vital to the President’s attainment of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, he assured all of his administration’s commitment to enhance access to quality education in the state by expanding the scale of educational infrastructure and providing the needed resources to skill up the youth population of the state.
