Fast-rising Afrobeat singer Seyi Vibez talks about his upbringing, musical journey and losing his mother.
Speaking to British-Nigerian podcaster, Adesope Olajide on his popular Afrobeats Podcast Seyi Vibez spoke about lots of personal stuff he had to deal with.
When asked about how the passing of his mum affected him the singer said, “My mum is just everything you know? I don’t want to talk about her too much so I don’t get emotional”, he also disclosed that he bought his mum a house as a surprise gift but never got to give it to her before she died.
Seyi also revealed that he stopped making music or putting out any of his work to grieve properly and this led to why his album was released late and the postponement of his UK tour.
Going further the singer spoke about his upbringing, stating that he was born in Ketu, but due to some unforeseen circumstances his family moved to Ikorodu when he turned 13, he also noted that people think being brought up in Ikorodu means you amount to nothing.
“When they hear you’re from Ikorodu, they think you don’t know anything. But you can be from the ghetto and still be classy”, he said.
Seyi Vibez kept acknowledging his family for being behind the success of his musical career.
“After God, my mother, father, family then my fanbase. My family is very important in my life so I don’t joke. Since I dropped my first album ‘million dollar baby’, my family has been thankful to God.”
Seyi Vibe is set to headline the Indigo tour in the UK.
