My Sound will Redefine Afrobeat – Sam Dloverboy

Fast-rising Afrobeat artist, Rotimi Samuel Oluwasogo who is professionally known as Sam Dloverboy has said that his music will redefine Afrobeat sound.

Sam Dloverboy made this known in a recent interview while discussing the release of his debut single. According to him, his style of Afrobeat is different and unique from what has been done in the past.

My music is Afrobeat, but it is different. My style has a fusion of poetic lyrics, and my sound distinguishes me from the others” He said.

The Lagos-born singer, who hails from Ondo state also stated that his roots as a renowned poet have influenced his lyrics. “My lyrics are expressive and not the regular ones you hear around, and that is because of my root in poetry”. He added. He explained that he combines consciousness with entertainment when writing music. According to him, many Nigerian artists get carried away with entertaining their fans without paying attention to the lyrics they string together.

He also said that “music is eternal, as artiste we need to be conscious of the lyrics we put out there. Once fans take it, it is no longer in our control. Anyways (sic), I am confident in my lyrics, and I know my sound will redefine Afrobeat”. Expressing how confident he is, Dloverboy emphasized that he can take on any beat if his earbuds catch the vibe.

Sam Dloverboy formed a teenage group, Youth Arise. The group wrote songs and poems and performed their crafts in shows across Lagos. He had to leave the group after he gained admission to the University of Benin, where he studied Biochemistry. The versatile singer stated that although he loves to sing, he had to take his time to decide if he wants to do music at the professional level.

It has not been easy to decide if I want to go into music full-time. You see (sic), the ability to sing is very different from being a professional musician. Being a professional musician means I want to commercialize my singing abilities, and that requires a lot of planning. Anyway, I have decided to be a musician, and I am confident in my team to market my song to the world.” He revealed.

Sam Deloverboy has decided to go into singing full-time, and he would release his debut single, “Koko” featuring ace rapper Oladips. He is also preparing to drop his debut EP. Good Morning. Sam Deloverboy is eligible to feature in major award categories including the Headies Rookie category since he is yet to drop his debut album. He is expected to disclose the number of tracks and the artiste that will feature in his debut EP in the coming days.
