Nigerian actress Bimpe Akintunde has expressed her concerns about the challenges of being a single parent.
During an interview on the podcast Talk To B with Biola Bayo, she emphasized that nothing takes a toll on a woman more than being a single parent.
Akintunde acknowledged that being a single mother is not a situation anyone desires, but sometimes life unfolds that way, especially considering men’s natural inclination towards polygamy.
Bimpe urged men to accept responsibility whenever they impregnate a woman.
“Single mum isn’t what anyone prays for there is nothing that kills a woman faster than single parenting. Men are polygamous in nature.
Any man that puts a lady in a family way, whether knowingly or unknowingly, should take responsibility”.
Bimpe added that whenever she meets people, they are often taken aback by her calm and pleasant demeanor, which is quite different from the characters she portrays in movies.
She clarified that Wasila Coded is simply a fictional character, and her real name is Bimpe Akintunde.
“When people meet me, they are like they don’t know I am this calm nice and think I am always breaking bottles, but I told them Wasila Coded is just a character, Bimpe Akintunde is my name”.
Last year, Bimpe shared a message with single mothers, where she opened up about her own experience as a single mother for 8 years and being without a partner for almost two years.
She explained the reasons behind her situation and encouraged others to embrace their circumstances, acknowledging that being single can be difficult but it is not the end of the world. She emphasized that she has learned to trust in God.
Bimpe also wrote a heartfelt letter to single mothers, advising them to be kind to themselves and take breaks when needed.
She acknowledged that no one chooses to be a single mom, and therefore they should not be too hard on themselves.
She encouraged them to stay positive, work hard, pray fervently, and never give up.
Since then, Bimpe has gotten married to a man who already has two wives. After her wedding, she shared how her daughter’s longing for a father personality deeply affected her.
Her daughter would constantly express her desire for a father and a sibling, causing Bimpe to feel devastated as her efforts to fulfill these wishes were unsuccessful.
Now, her daughter has found a father personality in Bimpe’s husband, and she is grateful for the bond they share.
