Sen. Ned Nwoko, who represents the Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly’s upper chambers, has issued a warning to the community about the importance of maintaining personal security.
During the ceremonial opening of his constituency office on Wednesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, Nwoko provided the advise to a gathering of stakeholders.
The senator urged his constituents to defend themselves with lawful firearms. The senator is presently supporting a bill at the National Assembly that would allow people to purchase and carry firearms.
He said, “You have sent me to represent you, I’m willing and ready to meet the needs of the people of Delta North, which has led me to unveil the campaign office housing nine local government areas of the state.
“I’m a very grateful person, without you, I will not be in Abuja, you gave me the platform and I won’t take you for granted.’’
“The number of citizens is increasing every day, the security agencies do not have the capacity to secure every nook and cranny, so security is everybody’s business.
“The state has failed to protect Nigerians, we have about 200,000 policemen in the entire country of the over 200 million people and that is grossly inadequate.
“Even journalists are also exposed to insecurity. If bandits attack you, who do you call that is easily accessible. This law is not for Nwoko
“There are illegal weapons in the hands of these bad boys and women, so those who are law abiding should be left unprotected, defenceless or you will wait for God to help you?’’
“So, there is need for the masses to have legal weapons for the purpose of self defence as security is everybody’s concern.
“I’m equal to the task, I’m very much prepared for this assignment and I didn’t go there to learn.”
In return for their faith in his leadership, he pledged to bring additional democratic benefits to the people of Anioma nation.
He promised brighter times ahead and stated that women and young people are essential to his constituency plan for the upcoming stage of his programs.
In response, a vote of implicit confidence in Senator Nwoko was passed by Anioma traditional rulers, which included monarchs from the Delta North senatorial district.
During the senator’s office unveiling ceremony in Asaba, this motion was made by His Royal Majesty, Obi Clement Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the traditional monarch of the Ukala Okpunor kingdom. It received unanimous support from other attendees.
According to the traditional rulers, Senator Nwoko has accomplished remarkable things with significant laws, motions, and empowerments that are all geared toward the advancement of Anioma, Delta state, and Nigeria overall.
