The Appointment of Prince Ademola Makinde as the new Owa of Igbajo has been approved by the the Osun State Executive council on Monday.
Mr. Kolapo Alimi revealed in a statement released in Osogbo by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Public Englightenment.
Recall that Prince Gboyega Famoodun, the previous chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the state, was appointed and made the Owa of Igbajo at the final year of the administration of the incumbent governor of the state. Mr Adegboyega.
In November 2022, Governor Ademola Adeleke disapproved Famoodun’s appointment and that of Aree of Iree, Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Olalekan Akadiri, and Oba Raphael Oluponle immediately after he took over administration of the state
The monarchs were asked to evacuate their palaces, pending the findings derived after the probe as a result of the circumstances saround their emergence.
The government called for a fresh selection process to fill the throne, as the stool of Owa of Igbajo and Aree of Iree were announced vacant. While Akinrun was told not to parade himself as monarch pending the determination of a suit that was pending before the Court of Appeal.
A statement announcing the appointment of the new Owa of Igbajo partly reads, “At the Executive Meeting held at the Exco chambers, the nomination as forwarded by the Boluwaduro Local government was approved in line with due process, chieftaincy law, and tradition.
“The kingmakers had earlier approved Dr Makinde, which was in line with chieftaincy laws and tradition.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Executive Meeting congratulated the new Owa of Igbajo and tasked him to heal the wounds of the selection process by ensuring inclusive traditional governance.”
