The South-East Development Peace Initiative, a non-governmental and non-profit organization has called on Ndigbo to support and embrace President Tinubu led Administration rather than promoting any form of protest or rebellion.
The group noted that this call has become imperative with regards to the recent inflation surge that has began to crumble the nation’s economy and attempts from miscreants stirring hatred in the hearts of the Igbos against the government.
Vitus Okechi, President of the group emphasizes the reason why Igbo’s should embrace President Tinubu leadership, in his words “igbos have suffered worse hungers, deprivation ans neglect since the end of the Civil War in 1970
“It is disheartening that the same people who folded their arms when the Igbos suffered such untold marginalization are the ones attempting to persuade our people to join the protests against the current federal government. What have these people done to ease the pains suffered by our people since the war?
“What have they done to bring the South-East at par with other regions in the number of component states? What have they done to address the dilapidated federal roads and other infrastructure in Igboland?
‘’Does it matter to them that the five states of the South-East account for only ninety-five local government areas whereas other regions have no less than one hundred councils each?”
While acknowledging that the state of affairs in Nigeria was bad, Okechi, a former commissioner and the outgoing chairman of the local government in Enugu State, emphasized that Nigerians must support the Tinubu administration in order to get the nation out of its current predicament.
“Let’s be frank, times are hard now. But the best way to get out of the situation is to support the Tinubu administration in its drive to make things better in the long run. The government has rolled out some measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.”
