Following her performance at Coachella 2024, where she gave a sneak peek of the song, there was great excitement and anticipation for Tems’ upcoming single ‘Love Me Jeje’.
The song ‘Love Me Jeje’ by Tems was released on April 26. In this track, Tems samples the popular 1997 Nigerian song ‘Love Me Jeje’ by Seyi Sodimu featuring Shaffy Bello.
This is Tems’ first release of 2024, following her collaboration with Tyla on the song ‘NO. 1’ from Tyla’s debut album.
‘Love Me Jeje’ is a continuation of her previous song ‘Not An Angel’, which she put out in December 2023. This new single has a moderate tempo and incorporates African percussion instruments and Highlife musical elements.
Additionally, she includes nostalgic lyrics borrowed from Seyi Sodimu’s timeless hit.
During her performance at Coachella in 2024, Tems explains that she decided to sample Sodimu’s 1997 song as a way to pay tribute to the timeless classic.
This new single has generated excitement for her upcoming debut album, which she announced was completed during her Coachella performance. Additionally, a private listening session was held in Lagos to build anticipation for the album.
Since gaining international recognition in 2020 after her captivating performance on Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, Tems has emerged as one of Africa’s most prominent music exports.
She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Drake and Beyonce, and she also co-wrote ‘Lift Me Up’, the official soundtrack for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ performed by Rihanna.
One of her remarkable achievements includes being the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U’.
