Three lawmakers were placed under suspension by Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Blessing Agbebaku on Monday due to a purported conspiracy to remove him and other key Assembly executives.
The only lawmaker that didn’t sign the petition that resulted in Philip Shaibu’s impeachment is Donald Okogbe of the PDP, Akoko-Edo II, one of the suspended lawmakers, who is an associate of Shaibu.
Addeh Emankhu Isibor, APC, Esan North-East I, and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II, are the other two.
Agbebaku further claimed that the three brought in a native doctor to the House on May 1 at around one in the morning to carry out a sacrifice.
The three members, according to Agbebaku, were placed under indefinite suspension because they were under pressure from outside parties to destabilize the country and overthrow the house’s leadership.
However, because lawmakers in question objected to their suspension, there was conflict in the House over their suspension.
The three lawmakers who had been suspended were heard yelling, “Mr. Speaker, you do not have the right to unilaterally suspend any member(s) of the house,” during a boisterous meeting.
“You must call for votes. Allow members vote on the matter.”
The Speaker, thereafter, adjourned the plenary abruptly.
