Former governor of Lagos State and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has settled for a Muslim running mate source confirms.

According to the Tinubu Campaign Organisation who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja, he said Tinubu would make the name of the candidate official this week.

Tinubu earlier chose Ibrahim Kabiru Masari as a placeholder for the vice-presidential slot to beat the NIEC deadline.

“The vice-presidential nominee may most likely be a former governor and senator from the Northeast part of Nigeria.

“The person is also by accident of birth a Muslim, confirming what Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said on Saturday that Tinubu had settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.”
The source said, while Tinubu was picking a Vice President, he never had religion in mind, he picked based on competence and capability.
“The considerations given for the choice of a running mate were dictated by the need to choose an individual capable of working with the presidential candidate to take Nigeria to greater heights.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have earlier asked that their running mates most be Christians. Considering the people’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have Muslim presidential candidates, while the Labour Party has a Christian presidential candidate and a Muslim VP.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said “Tinubu is scheduled to pay Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina, on Sunday to brief him on his chosen running mate.”
