Tribunal sacks NNPP’s Kano governor, declares APC winner

Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Kano State on Wednesday sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the governorship poll.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey said the margin of votes scored by the NNPP was not enough to give Governor Yusuf victory, saying some of the votes credited to him (Yusus) were invalid.

“The court deducted 165,663 votes from Yusuf as invalid, stating that the ballot papers (165,663) were not stamped or signed and therefore declared invalid.”

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the NNPP candidate polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat the APC candidate, who scored 890,705 votes.

Kabir Yusuf thus won with a margin of 128,897 votes and was declared winner by the electoral body.
