Joseph Aloba, the father of the late rapper and singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has explained why he hurriedly buried his son.
Mohbad, a former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, left the label in February 2022, and died on Tuesday, September 12, at the age of 27 and was quickly buried on Wednesday at his hometown in Ikorodu.
Providing an insight into the swift burial of the late musician, the father in an interview shared by Temilola Sobola (@TemilolaSobola) via Instagram, claimed he was only respecting Yoruba culture.
Aloba said it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are still alive.
Speaking further, he disclosed that the land where Mohbad was buried belonged to his son and that he had given it to him to build a church.
He said, “In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive,” he said.
“That land where Mohbad was buried is his only land, that is the only land I know him to have owned.
“Truly he gave me the land to build my church because we had both agreed to build the church there and since that’s the only land I knew him to have.”
Wakadaily earlier reports how Baale of Ikorodu who also doubles as the chairman of landlords recounted how he stopped Mohbad’s father from burying him at midnight.
The Lagos State Police Command had said the corpse of the late singer would be exhumed for autopsy to aid investigation into the cause of his death, if the need arises.
