Yvonne Orji is working on creating a TV show inspired by Yaa Gyasi’s novel ‘Transcendent Kingdom’

Yvonne Orji, an actress of Nigerian and American descent, is spearheading the creation of a TV series for Sony Pictures Television. The series will be based on the book Transcendent Kingdom, written by Yaa Gyasi, a Ghanaian author.

Following her signing of a two-year agreement with Sony Pictures Television, Orji will be responsible for developing scripted shows for streaming and cable platforms. This news was reported in an article published by Deadline on April 22, 2024.

Orji gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Molly in the HBO Max series Insecure, which earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2020.

Recently, Orji appeared in The Blackening, a horror-comedy, and Vacation Friends 2, a comedy sequel on Hulu released in 2021. She has also lent her voice to the comedy film Night School directed by Malcolm D.

Lee and the animated series My Dad the Bounty Hunter on Netflix. Additionally, she has other previous credits to her name.Gifty’s intricate life is explored in Transcendent Kingdom, Gyasi’s second novel.
