An 8-year-old boy accidentally shot dead a 1-year- girl and injured her sister with his father’s gun at a Florida motel on Sunday, police report.

Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons during a news conference on Monday, Roderick Randall the Father of the boy, 45-year-old was arrested and charged with guilty negligence, unlawful possession of a gun and covering evidence, the little girl was said to be Roderick’s girlfriend daughter.

Simmons said the boy’s father left the gun holstered in his Pensacola motel room in the closet, After he left the room, his son found it and fired a round that passed through and killed the infant and struck the toddler. Roderick’s girlfriend was asleep when the incident happened.

The 2-year-old girl was hospitalized but was expected to recover from her injuries. Her twin was also in the room but was unharmed.
